Dar Edgements,
Te have been very much interested by the
sections of the Report of the British Economic Nission
to the Far East which lay stress on the importance
of closer "cultural contacts" and of attracting
greater numbers of Chinese to British Universities
and workshops (pages AP, 104 - 107 of printed report).
We feel that the Report has presented us
with an opportunity of obtaining vider recognition
of the work that Hong Kong University has achieved
and, still more, of what it might achieve if the
necessary financial backing could be found. It is
obviously cheaper and easier to train Chinese students
at Hong Kong instead of in the United Kindom, while
they have in the Colony not only "British culture”
but also considerable facilities for practical work
